After reading all four interviews, I chose the interview with James Cerofeci.Because its theme releated to "Up against Wall- Mart," where workers were fought for the union at Wal- Mart and at piano factory in Steinway.I like the way interviewer took the interview because it is easy to understand and feel like I am taking his interview. In addition, he asked questions in going very depth without interrupting him.In the begining,James Seemd like not giving all answers, but interviewer had ability that made him giving details of conditions of work. For example, how he discriminated in work place and how he stablished the union. Moreover, James showed him some written records(pg 44) after contacting him.

This interview is different from the "Terkel" because Terkel is paraphrrased and this is transcript. However,I think this kind of interviews are useful when we take interview or after interview because any kind of reader can understand.I mean educated or non educated reader.Because all readers are not college graduated. For example, news papers readers, immigrants etc.In fact, this is a historical interview, so any body can read if he/she is interested about American history.

Finally, James was working in during the depression.By chance the factory was closed and worked as a hack driver. After reopening the rubbing factory he came back because the money they paid was a liitle more than hack driver. Then he and other workers started gathering at the Bussy's bar to talk about union and all workers succeed to building union. Then James talked about how black men came to factory and women came to glinders.

  1. Interesting reflections - what do you think about the way James describes his work - what can you find out about how he feels about his work? How does it compare to what we've seen in Terkel?

  2. In steinway factory, James were discriminated , paid low wages, no holidays,no promoted, and no protection of job. Moreover, in the same rubbing department, the workers were paid different wages.I think emotionally, he feels sad because they didn't treat him well.In the Terkel I didn't see any workers are discriminated because non of the intervers are mentioned about facing discrimination, however James mentions of facing discrimination.

  4. That's interesting - there might be reasons why folks in Terkel don't discuss discrimination - for example, the women in the "A pecking order" status don't talk about being pushed into certain jobs because of gender, but we understand what a big factor this in their working lives.
